My version of a traditional Taiwanese winter drink that will warm you up right away! Traditionally, Taiwanese people drink a tea of black sugar and ginger during the winter to keep warm; the traditional version is a bit too sweet for me, so I toned down the sugar (and the ginger), and added some licorice root and rose to round out the flavour for a lovely evening hot drink. I used red sugar in this recipe, which is simply raw, caramelized cane sugar with all of its nutrients retained, known for its warming and skin-loving properties! Best way to enjoy it is to keep it cooking on a stove or mug warmer to continue to extract all the flavour and good stuff!
Red (brown) sugar, ginger, licorice, rose
